The generator, from a rough guess, seems to follow the voltage and wattage profile of Ginlong's GL-PMG-1000 model. The magnets are not as angled as the picture makes them appear. I took a motor apart and they are at the same angle - about 11 degrees.

I have my eye on an 8.5' rotor from TLGWindPower.com. I have a picture of it here

I have to figure out how I am going to put together a 30' guyed-tower and talk to my neighbors. The last part may be a problem.

Will the rotor hold onto the shaft the way it is with neo magnets, or will the material fail? What do the rest of you do who have increased the magnetic strength of your rotors? How are they driving the shaft?

Hi IM,

The neo rotors I have built "hold-on" the splined shaft just as the normal rotor,,If you are worried about the plastic material "twisting" ,you could pop rivet a Aluminium backing plate on,,the back ribs would be ideal to support this.

Another point,,if you are replacing Ceramic magnets with Neo,s scout around and see if you can find the brown plastic rotor,,it seems to be stronger.

Bruce,

which is the brown rotor? I've already mounted my neos so it's a done deal. The only other rotor I saw was the cream-colored rotor F&P is now selling. Is this the "weaker" one?

What aluminum backing are you refering to?

Also, I was thinking about putting a shaft color on the shaft and boring a hole through it and the shaft. I would secure it with a hard stainless bolt. Does this sound good?

Hi IM , ok ,you've finished your neo conversion ,thats fine .. I was saying the brown colored rotor is actually stronger because of the composition,,I think it was a mixture of fibres in the plastic that made it more rigid than the others-that whitish one you have contained small rectangular magnets ,,maybe they were Neo's(not positive of that) ..I tried to remove these to replace with neo's ,,but found them too difficult to remove withour damaging the steel backing behind the magnets..

Putting a collar onto the shaft--- ok,,but be careful,,drilling holes in this 24mm shaft will certainly weaken that area,,especially if you are hanging a blade set off the end...

That back plate of Aluminium ,,it's a good stiffener,,check out Harald's recent Post for pictures of how he did his ,,I made one and it was successful ..
