hye, im naim from national defence university of malaysia..im am building a project for my degree project which is Rainstrorm Alarm System...actually im already ask this question to the administrator at "About us" but no replies..

firstly, my project is quite same like PicLog (http://www.thebackshed.com/Windmill/PicLog.asp)..but my project is simple because im just collecting the windspeed only..so i dont need the voltage and AC measurement..

so my question is how to simply the circuit in PicLog because im quite dont understand about the circuit and what component to use because the circuit just show the picture not the series or model of the components..

so can anyone help me?..im running of time because the presentation day is just around the corner ...

Hi Naim.

We need some more info. If you just want to measure windspeed then you wont need the PicLog.

What do you want as the output, a variable voltage, or a 1/0 output once a wind speed is reached?

the output= wind speed (rpm)

im using cpu fan cooler to be as anemometer..
so when the wind speed reached at maximum which it means can harm people it will sound an alarm (im using a buzzer)..

The little fan, once you remove the electronics and add a diode, will generate a voltage proportional to wind speed, though I wouldn't use it as a accurate measuring device.

What you want is a simple circuit that will switch output once this voltage rises to a preset level. A op-amp comparator is all you need, see here for a crash course in op-amps. http://web.telia.com/~u85920178/begin/opamp00.htm

Hi Naim

The PicLog is overkill for what you want, its like using a PC to work out 1+1=2

Look into using a op-amp like I suggested, it will work perfectly for what you want. Simple and reliable.

Yahoo Messenger? Nah dont do the chat thing.

Hi Z3ronim,

You sound like you intend to try and program the OP-amp circuit?

Hi Niam

It sounds like you are new to electronics. I would suggest you contact someone in your university who is experienced in electronics to help you with your project. The "Op-Amp" does not need to be programmed.
