I am new to this windmill game and have a couple of dumb questions.
Question, doze the “strength” of the magnets have a big effect on the voltage and or amperage of the generator?
Question, is it necessary to have a thick steel backing behind the magnets to get a good out put from the generator? Any comments will be appreciated!
Thanks Fore Your Help

The answer to the first question regards strength is simply, yes. There is a limit though as to how strong your magnets can be in achieving higher voltages and amps. There will come a point where no matter how much larger or powerful your magnets are, you will still get the same amount of optimum voltage and amps...the limit (constraint) is due to flux saturation...which leads to answering your second question:
Thick steel backing behind magnets is a good idea in that it allows the "circuit" of magnetic flux between magnets to continue uninhibited. BUT, there is a fine balance between getting the optimum steel (I like the word iron -Fe- better) thickness without diluting the circuit of flux that would reach your coils of copper.
...hope someone can answer more simply or correct me on any misnomer :)
