Hi I've been searching the net for some plans for a windturbine. So far the best I can find in terms of power output is this turbine on instructables.com http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-1000-watt-wind-turbine/ How do small commercial turbines produce as much as 15Kw. Are there any plans or information avaliable on larger turbines? Cheers Gavin UK DIY Renewables forum currently seeking members and help for the Admin. My Link |

A good number of small commercial turbines have "fabricated" tables. It seems the Tooth-Fairy and the Easter Bunny are both involved in the making of these tables when Santa is busy and the politicians are running for election. Ron Adventure is just bad planning." -- Roald Amundsen |

What Ron said. An interesting calculation one can make is to check whether the manufacturer's numbers yield efficiencies higher than the Betz efficiency (a theoretical maximum efficiency of 59.3% for windturbines; a hard upper limit, like the speed of light and Carnot efficiency). If someone is trying to sell a turbine with efficiency higher than 59.3%, they're either incompetent or conn men or both. Larger DIY windturbine plans or information: http://www.otherpower.com/otherpower_wind.shtml http://www.scoraigwind.com/ http://www.anotherpower.com/gallery/zubbly?page=30 I consider the above links/people to be worthy of my trust, even though I may have a different opinion on details. There are more of course. For example, somewhere on this board there's a chainsaw wielding maniac whose opinion sometimes isn't far from the truth. Good luck on your quest. And remember... if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. The renewable energy field (wind, solar) seems to have more than its fair share of misguided (overunity) people, or even outright conn men. There's a lot of detritus out there that one has to wade through to find the occasional gem. I think the above links contain gems. Peter. Thanks for the links Peter, lots for me to read up on. I have been thinking of building something similer to this http://www.otherpower.com/otherpower_wind.shtml I've started a trial run at carving a blade to see if im up to the task.
