Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.
Hi People
I have been playing around with wind power for a few years and build a few, enough to know my place is windy.
I plan to install a wind generator and grid connect it, but have decided to buy one instead of making it myself.
I can get a 2kw vertical turbine for about $8500 which includes Inverter and controler.
Attached are the specs and a picture.
What do you think?
Originally I was going to install a 1kw Whisper, but this looks better value.
Regards Brett

Looks like they beat the Betz limit to me .... But it is common for advertising copy to exceed theoretical and possible.
From the handy IRC BOT calculator using equivalent to 2m X 3m area (2kW unit)
3664.5 watts possible from 2.8 m dia prop (6.0 m^2) in 36 km/Hr wind (density of 1.225000) 586.3 watts output assuming generator is 80% efficient and Cp of 0.20

Hi Brett,
Do you have link to the company? Is it chinese?
Before you buy, it would be good advice to visit their showroom(if any) if possible and see it in action..The blades seem to be well supported.
If it's from China, just copy it but make it stronger Not sure of your gridtie requirements down there.

The graph presented is close to just the wind energy per unit wind capture area. We all know that how much energy harvested by an alternator may only be a small fraction of this in reality.
