first off... thanks for the wealth of information here... truly rad!!
so i got a 3 phase servo motor on ebay. it is made by fanuc. the specs:
model:
GE FANUC A06B-0356-B755
volts: 140
amps ((stall) as in a servo stalling) 20
rpm: 2000
weight: 60lbs
if my calc's are right i should get a 12v cut in @ 180 or so rpms??? but then i read something that said you times the 3 phase voltage by 1.4 after rectification. that would make it even lower, but i'd be stoked with 180!!
so my big question is (and i know there is no definate answer to this) what size blades should i put on this thing? and angle of attack? it is brushless so that helps. it will be permanently be located in a us-doe wind zone 4 on a 40-50 foot tower.
any ideas? really like the idea of chain sawing the blades like a few of you have done.

Hi birdhouse,
the 20A is the key number for power. At 12V system, you get 240W or so. 60lb unit for 240W. pretty heavy. Maybe need to go for 24V, and 500W or so. 8' rotor would work...

thanks gordon,
really only 240w @ 12v?? i really want to stick with 12v for easy lighting ect. looking to power a 10x10 foot structure with a few lights and a stereo... all 12v. what do you think that thing would put out in 25mph winds with an 8 foot rotor? as in wattage. i'm prepared to rectify @ the battery bank. i pee more than once before flushing, and don't have to flush at all up at the ranch!

Hi Birdhouse.
A 60 lb mill, up 50 feet, 240 watts, a good tower, a
10x10 buiding, and one small radio, and a light. There must be a easier way.
Or maybe i missed something?

it does sound a little crazy... i'll admit. i'm a commercial contractor so have access to abandoned runs of 4 inch 1/4 inch wall pipe and 3" too. just have to remove them from the ceiling of a building i work on all the time. so the tower itself would be free. cables, fitting, concrete, and re-bar i'd have to find/buy. if the tower were strong enough to hold up a heavy turbine, i could always put a different (more powerful) turbine up later. i've got pine trees, so that is why the tall (in my mind) tower. i've got a 9,500 pound winch on my truck to hoist with... hopefully that'd be enough with a decent length gin pole.
yes, a few lights, but i would also like to run a car stereo (i think they draw quite a bit) that i could really crank up via indoor and outdoor speakers. i will be building a (real) cabin up there through out the years, so would love to have a loud enough stereo to drone out the generator. i HATE that thing!!
do you think i'd be better of building two or three ametek types and mounting them on little twenty foot towers? i just am trying to stay away from winding my own coils, and glueing magnets, although i do have tons of respect for these machines!
fyi- planning on 440ah worth of storage ie- 4 golf cart type batteries. adequite??i pee more than once before flushing, and don't have to flush at all up at the ranch!
