Just to let everyone know that l havent been on discuss forums for a while due serious heath problem.

anyway during my spare time over fews week i believe its the worlds first home made windmill of this kind.

l got a 5 legged office chair from the tip to fit wind mill blades and F&P bearings and a shaft fit straight through by removing the hydraulic tube of the office chair before putting the bearings in. i will send photos as soon as l get my camera fixed.

great stuff...you could also promote another world first and use another chair as a stand to hold your mill together...a truly portable mill and ideal wind chaser

Good stuff Dwyer,
Maybe we should start a section about the weid stuff some of us use.
I've used 1. the shockabsorber pushrod for a shaft,very hard chrome plating and very thick wall on those shockies.
2.A motorcycle rear axle bearing made of Aluminium,very strong (moto-guzzie),I think .
3. Copper sewerage pipe for slip rings.
4. One of those outdoor umbrella stands dynabolted onto the concrete path for a test pole ,

Nearly all the above found at the tip for free.

Looks cool to me.

You need to find another more comfortable chair.... so you can sit and watch it spin while you enjoy a cold one (or two).

Ian thats a brilliant idea. It would be strong and you can find them with 4, 5 and 6 spokes. The 6 spoke one could work for 3 blade turbines.

Hi Dwyer,
Great idea mate, I think I will use it on my 100series I am building as I want to use 5 blades, and the chair I am sitting on as I write this has been threatened with the skip by her indoors.
What dia. is the pvc pipe u are using for the fins ?
