Just trying to get some ideas for my axial alternator. I'm into recycling so the coils will be made from old 22 gauge copper wire from degaussing coils (TV crt)I've collected over the years. I have some neodynium magnets from old hard disk drives but they have a north and south on the same magnet. How could I utilise them in a generator? I understand that you need a magnet to coil ratio of 4:3 so I was going for 8 magnets and 6 coils. I also recycled some ferrite magnets from Imac speakers but they don't have the strength of the neos. Is it also true that the coil needs to be double the width of the magnet? Any help appreciated. The generator will eventually go on the ryobi crankcase. I'm not ready to build something as large as an f&p yet. Staying with small for the time being.Edited by waggawind 2009-04-21
