Hi im a new member and have a question hopefully you can help me with this.

I read on the forums that you can use the motor inside of a lg washer to produce power for a windmill and so today I went and found one and now my question is I plugged in a meter and it read about 100 volts as I moved it by hand it powered up a 40 watt light bulb so i was wondering if their was a way to find out what is the max watts that this produces the model of the washer is wm2233h and front loader could anyone tell me how to find out ?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The test you have done indicates that you can get some useful output from this motor but just how much is rather like the length of a piece of string!

Perhaps someone will have some experience or otherwise to give a rule of thumb for that motor but otherwise, and this is the option I suggest, you should make a windmill and find out!

Some of the guys here have tested generator systems in a lathe with a dummy load.Edited by KiwiJohn 2009-05-01

Hello

You can buy test data (expensive)from:

http://www.ecoinnovation.co.nz/p-347-lg-test-data-and-wiring -graphs.aspx

I will run some output test on LG motors in the next view weeks, so some data will be available here for free!!
The lathe I am useing starts to stall @ 600watts. If anybody on the Sunshine Cost, Queensland has a bigger on for testing, this would be great .
And if anyone already has some data on LG available, please contact me.

" Ecoinn " mentions up to 1.2KW output. I think that's for the small one, 16mm wide steel laminate of the stator. The other LG motor I have is from a LG or Whirlpool toploader with 32mm wide steel laminate. So there might be up to 2KW available: I need a bigger lathe

There are some pics in a previous post about LG's

cheers

Harald

If you can find the ID Tag, Motor Data Plate Volts-Amps.
This will tell you what the wiring in the motor can handle without over heating. 120 VOLTS * Full load Current AMPS = Watts. There is Rectifier loss to charge batteries and Dc to Ac converter loss. Most people get about 170 watts in a good wind. Not worth the cost of a windmill and all the equipment.
Time has proven that I am blind to the Obvious, some of the above may be True?
