Hi there , this is my first post . We're building a place just north of Newcastle NSW , Its off the grid and will have 16x130W solar panels . 24V ,1660ah batteries , I'm getting a good size charger , but was not very interested in running a genny . So , naturally I think wind power , The position up there is fairly open , on the river 20klm's inland . My questions is , what would be a good size wind generator to have how many blades etc , There's 2 of us but we aren't to conservative when it comes to appliances . The system we had designed should cover all , but I like the idea of wind power back up . I'm just trying to find out whether council will let us have a tower ,any help would be appreciated , thanks Yochemin yochemin |

Hi Yochemin, welcome to the site. How handy are you with the tools? Could you build your own, or would you prefer to buy a commercial turbine? Have a chat to the local counci first, to see what you can and cant do. Tower height is a big issue, find out how high you can go. Most farm water windmills are 25 to 35 feet, about 7 to 10 meters, so you should be OK if you keep under that.
