hi all

has anyone ever mucked about with a monopolar generator, with the blades spinning a magnet in close proximity to a metal disc or vice versa(no brushes required if the magnet is spun). if i understand it correctly negative is at the centre of the disc and positive at the edge. might be some fun.

I'm thinking this is what is being talked about here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homopolar_generator
"Homopolar Generator"

This design is similar to a 12-volt generator I have on my own drawing
table. I intend spinning a disk that has been impregnated with neo magnets
at spaced intervals; spinning past a "C" coil pickup point.

I have about eleventy-seven projects going on, but as soon as I come up for
air, I may tackle this one. I think you're right; it might be some fun!

hi all

i've had a good look around this interweb thing, and discovered that if you need amps monopolar is the way to go. as these typically develop in the order of all five fifths of not much, no good for charging batteries.
