hi guys back from FLORIDA but anyhow i am working on a 10 diode bridge rectifier why 10 diodes?...because the stepper motor has 5 wires coming out of it, 2 diodes are for each wire , and amps need to be higher for 4 double a batterys i am also making it run into a capciter then discharge to an LED but the led has a good resistor

Hi Dean

Could you grab a multimeter and measure the resistance between the 5 leads? It sounds like it would be a 5 wire stepper with the center connections commoned, like on this page...

If there is one wire with a equal resistance to the other 4, then thats the center tap and you can leave it unused.

thanks what dail is used to measure Resistance on a multimeter?

Hi Dean

Ohms. Lower value means less resistance.

On the Links page http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/Links.asp
are a few links to electronics for beginners sites, these are a good place to start with using multimeters.
