We live out on a farm, Planning to build. Right now I am trying to find some DIY plans on making a small windmill I can use to run say the water pump, while also letting it feed off the grid if needed. But Ideally I am trying to learn enough to be able to power a majority of my home off wind. The new home we are building is also going to be geothermal cooled/heated, so Should help cut back a lot. as well as heavily insulated. Could anyone point me to some DIY plans. and possibly a company for store bought options to help power a home. I have been eyeing these new windspires, for around 7-10k. still trying to figure out how the power consumption is calculated. i.e. ho wmuch will be produced and for what cost per Kw. Thanks Shawn |

a $20,000 Skystream wind turbine will be lucky to run 30 - 50% of your house (if its eco-friendly) , If you have money to burn go solar. Cameron. All smart drive parts sold Custom built turbine parts on Multicam flatbed CNC Router |

Hi Shawn A skystream would cost less than 20k to install. I have some experience with them. A farm site with open ground and reasonable wind could expect to harvest around 8-10 kWhr/day Peter C |

Here are a few sites familiar to most on this board. IMHO, these are the best sites on the net for DYI wind generators. Hugh Piggott offers excellent plans and books. http://www.scoraigwind.com/axialplans/ Also the Dans at otherpower offers the same. http://www.otherpower.com/ And of course, this site also offers a wealth of information. http://www.thebackshed.com philb |
