Ok I got my F&P from randysworkshop.com yesterday (it's a 60 series 36 coils and 48 magnets) and am looking for suggestions on what wiring configuration would work best. I will be using the Windy Nation 80" blades that are relatively slow turning. Here are the specs I got from Josh 8 mph ~ 250 rpm 15 mph ~ 500 rpm 20 mph ~ 600 rpm 25 mph ~ 650 rpm 35 mph ~ 875 rpm Below are links to my weather station from last winter with the wind speeds. I realize I may not have the perfect location and that's ok. I figure this first wind generator will be a sort of test to see if it would be worth scaling up to a larger unit to supplement my current PV system. If the links below don't work just go to www.wunderground.com and at the top of the page enter my weather station id KTCBROOK2 then in the box to the right select "Personal Weather Stations" and search. Hi gblass What voltage are you planning to use? The 36 pole stators are fairly new, there isn't a great deal of experience with them yet, but they do have a couple of advantages over the older and more common 42 pole motors. No cogging and more rewire options. This page will get you pointed in the right direction. http://www.thebackshed.com/Windmill/FPRewire.asp Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. I forgot to ask as far as the re-wiring goes would you consider my application a slow or high speed. Looks like 4 poles in series would be a good place to start. Thanks George |

hi george, had a look at your station data. we are in a very low wind speed area. when i say we it's because it appears that we are next door neighbors! i'm in southington and i just received several f&p's from randy as well. i plan to try the stator stock first with the capacitor boost/loading arrangement these fine folks have worked out.(have you read the two great threads on here regarding the caps and f&p's ?)-some fine work there- then stock delta before i start to mod the stator. as an aside. i had these units in my hands not less than 2 minutes before i got a good pinch from the stator/rotor while playing with it. ouch! thank heavens these are only ferrites and not neos. have you figured out a blade hub mounting arrangement yet? we are juggeling a bunch of other projects here but hope to be up before the first snow. cheers, dave |

Hey Neighbor Talk about a small world. I would be very interested in the info on using caps instead of re-wiring. Was it on this forum ? As for the mount I just bought the one from Randy when I purchased the f&p. I'm planning on using the 80" WindGrabber blades. What blades are you using ? We'll have to get together to compare results. If you want to get me off the forum my email is gblass1@yahoo.com George |

small world indeed-what are the chances of meeting someone down the street on an ausie forum? better go put a pot of coffee on. http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/forum1/forum_posts.asp?T ID=1138&PN=1 and http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/forum1/forum_posts.asp?T ID=1257&PN=1 fantastic read! a big thanks to all for your efforts!! i did not see the hubs at randys..i'll have to go back and check. it would be one less thing to have to made up. i've got a nice assortment of blades to use. some fast three and six bladed hornet style 60" the tlg blades some 54" and 60" as well as the 84" set and some homemade ones as well. we are not expecting much out of the stock windings to start but want to record the data in the stock configuration before i start changing things- with several stators i can get the new arrangement to try ready and just swap out the stator and be back up in the air in less time. we have not used the windgrabber blades, however they look to be the same as the tlg "tri-nado" set i have (the 84" jobs). we shall see! enjoy the read! dave kb1mzf edit: i see those links did not work. those threads were started by GW@PE "visual effects of capacitors" and "F&P@PE" |
