I've had a few emails from Vasi in Romania. For our younger viewers, Romania was once part of the USSR. Vasi plays around with electronics and is also building a windmill. He has sent some circuits and tips that may be helpfull ( especially the "asprin" tip, more on that later ), so I thought I would pass them on. This is a charge controller he built, the circuit.... ![]() and this is his finished layout, ready to be put in its case. I can forward the component values and translation if anyone wants it. We call this way of making circuit boards "bread boarding", its very fast and great for one off designs.... ![]() A coil winder.... ![]() This is Vasi's workshop, I would love to have a workshop that looks like this.... ![]() Now for the Asprin tip. To solder enameled wire, we would first scrape off the enamel coating with a knife or sandpaper, or use a small blow tourch to burn off the coating before soldering. Vasi uses a asprin! I tried this, and it works fantastic. Put a asprin tablet on the bench, then place the enameled wire on top. Hold the wire down with your soldering iron, after a second or two, apply a little solder. The asprin starts to melt, cleans off the enamel and tins the wire in one go. Only takes a couple of seconds for a perfectly tined wire. It does smell a bit, dont know if the fumes are toxic, but the results are worth it. You can use the same tablet several times.... ![]() I wont be using sand paper ever again! I'll pass on more of Vasi's emails in the future. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Interesting stuff. Slight correction however. Whilst Romania was an eastern block country, it was not part of the USSR. Ronald |

Milkwood, a part of Romania was under USSR occupation and now is a different country, Moldova, but with the same language and people (and, of course, with russian colonists). Also, romanian treasury, saved from german occupation and send it to Moscow, is still there. Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

Hello Vasi, I like your sense of humor-- about the good English site __ You'd fit in well over here, lol. Tell us this, how do you get up that ladder to your workshop ? or is that the visitors quarters on the second floor ? Can you get your hands on a F&P washing machine motor over there ? Welcome to Glenn's site . Bruce Bushboy |

I have a rottweiler guarding that zone so, the ladder is a bless for the visitors. But are missing parts ... and dog know that ... ![]() I heard something about a LG washing machine wich use something similar but is a new product and expensive. I will do research ... Right now, i want to make an axial alternator but using ring ferrite magnets. I hope it works. Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |

I intend to use this for a double rotor axial alternator. The wire is 1.5 mm diameter and weight=2 kg (i hope it is sufficient). I have 16 ferrite magnets. ![]() ![]() ![]() * D=45mm * h=7.5mm * d=22mm Hobbit name: Togo Toadfoot of Frogmorton Elvish name: Mablung Miriel Beyound Arduino Lang |
