Hi .. I’m new to this and have an unusual requirement.. I live and work in Aberdeen Scotland.. I need to generate power on a small scale in the centre of the city and here comes the strange bit .. It’s to power my local allotment ok I can here the chuckles now.. So here is my brief at present we have very little access to water and most water is harvest from buildings on site and move around by hand.. We have some lighting using individual solar lights.. And a couple of solar powered small pond pumps..

What I need is a wind mill to trickle charge a bank of batteries to power said devices and cope with our expiation plans.. I.e. pump water round the site using windscreen wiper pumps .. Small low voltage security lights.. Low voltage lighting for buildings.. The list is endless….

I see on this site there are plans for The mini mill great idea can it be made larger i.e. use a stepper motor from a big printer.. The size of the final Mill will be an issue for the local council so I thought that was a good place to start..

Please any help idea’s … We would gratefully take them on board..

Hi Ugly Bob ( I dont know where some of you guys get your nick names from? )

Steppers make good little windmills and are great as a first project. And yes a bigger stepper with a bigger set of blades will make more power. Old computer printers or photo copiers are a good source of larger steppers, have a chat to the local computer repair people and ask them to put aside the dead printers for you, then every couple of weeks drop by to see what they have saved for you.

The MiniMill has the advantage of being easy to make, you could built several over a weekend.
