Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi All, I have a shaded pole motor from a 230v single phase A.C. fan, and I want to use this as a generator. If I machine the rotor to accept strong permanent magnets, and then wire off the 3 coils through 3 seperate bridge recifiers with the outputs connected in parallel (just the dc side)...would this work? I wont be wiring the field coil in, as this is now redundant. This motor originally ran at 1700rpm at 230v, so I figured if this works, I should make enough to charge batteries for my inverters at 100rpm.

Yeah that should work, but you may need a little more than 100 RPM. There is a common induction motor conversion called a garbogen, use google to search for "garbogen". Its a common conversion so you should be able to find lots of info to help you.
