Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

hey Gizmo
Have you ever heard of someone building a really sturdy tower, using massive blades (not necessarily long ones but designed along the style of the old mill grinding blades )
& transferring that power down a shaft. it would be a lot slower revs but from there you could step up the revs considerably. My son and I have had quite a few arguments
about this. What do you think

I dislike posting links to other sites but here is a link to a thread that is almost like what you are asking about. It is of course from a mate down under.

I will say this the more bearings, gearboxs, power transfers that you run the power through the more of it you lose. Making the diameter bigger will offset many of the losses but slows rpms and means using a bigger stronger tower.

Thanks Fini just perfect

Gizmo this has got to be the most original idea I've seen in all the perusing of alt. power sites. It would be a great general posting for this site ( I think )
