Hey guys

Just been tinkering and made a small model of a screw type Vawt. Thought you would be interested in having a look. Photo taken with phone so sh*t quality it is.

I'll also post a 1 minute vid I took its in zip format and i think you need quick time to play it.

Cheers
Christian

Hey

Here is the vid as promised. I was very impressed by this little unit considering the light breeze needed to get it started. I know its not doing any work so it should spin easy anyway. I looks pretty sweet spinning in the breeze almost hypnotic.

Does anyone else suffer from wind induced hypnosis

Its about 500mm high and 300mm wide

Cheers
Christian

Hi all

Just thought I'd let you know that i'm going to build a larger version of this vawt but with a slight modification to the design of the S blade. May be 1.5 m x 0.5m

Does anyone know how to draw a parabola in Solid works 2005 I used the help file but as usual they don't help.

I think if I change it to two opposing parabola's it will become more efficient

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hey rotorhed, have you tried the sandia laps S type VAWT. I made a small one and it runs very well. The plans are on the left side of this page
http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/photos4.asp
It would be interresting to see how it runs with a twist in it like you windmill.

Hi all

Glenn no I haven't tried sadia type yet but I do agree that it would be quite interesting to see how it runs with a twist in it maybe a twist of 90 degrees instead of 180 like mine, might make it a little less complex to build.

I do like the idea of it having a vane for the air to travel through and maybe accelerate the opposing side.

Cheers
