Well I finished the Chinese blade modifications on the weekend. After a coat of paint I sanded them with some wet and dry to remove the fibreglass hairs.

I mounted the blades onto the hub, and jiged the turbine level to get the tips traveling true. Here you can see the finished blade tip and twist.

Then mounted them on my F&P windmill. The hub offsets the blades to give a diameter of 2.4 meters.

And finally up in the air.

No real results to talk about, and I dont think I'll be able to get any results for some time, see below. But the windmill started up easily and I saw over 100 watts there for a few seconds during a wind gust. I still need to play around with the blade angles to get the best results. Noise was minimal, there was a low whistle when the windmill yawed.
Now the reason I may not get any results. The winds up here come from the north east for the months September to February. The rest of the year the winds are from the south east, and my place is on the north side of a hill, so for the next few months I will have terrible winds for a HAWT windmill. To explain, I untwisted the drop wire on Sunday. Yesterday I untwisted it again, and counted 32 twists. So the windmill has done over 30 complete 360's in 48 hours! Last year during the time of the south east winds, I didn't see my HAWT windmill run once for several months. Mean while, the VAWT Lenz2 windmill was merrily working away.

So the plan is to mount the Lenz2 on top of my windmill tower. This weekend hopefully.

This means I have a set of modified Chinese blades, and no way to test them.

So if there is anyone in the area who would like to test these blades, please let me know. The best test would be to try them on the Chinese windmill. But if you have a working F&P windmill, I can also lend you the blade hub I made to suit the F&P shaft.

Long post, brain tired.
