Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi all - great site and forum thank you. For our (off-grid) property in the mountains south-west of Sydney we plan to upgrade the current solar/petrol generator arrangement with more PV panels and a wind turbine. So far, all the research suggests the F&P motor/stator option is the way to go.

The "Backshed" instructions seem to make sense, along with blades shaped from 150 mm UPVC pipe - a bit under 2 m overall diameter. I have good engineering facilities though my own and the workshop of various mates

The bad news is that F&P or their repairers) will not supply recycled parts and access to tips here is near impossible. Any suggestions about where to get suitable P&F components in NSW would be appreciated. (I'll pay for interstate freight if necessary). Maybe there are other components(like LG dryers)that might substitute - if so, are there any special mating/shaft problems?

Thanks and regards

Hello Dwyer

Thank you for the speedy reply. I also heard back from a dealer in Sydney who is supplying 5 F&P sets (including shaft, stator etc)very cheaply so it looks as though I'm set for the moment. However, I may want to buy other bits from you so we should keep in touch.

Cheers

Hi Alan, welcome to the site.

Try ebay, I occasionally see them there. Search for windmill, and you can sometimes find someone selling a complete F&P motor for the purpose of building your own windmill. I just checked and there are none there currently, but try again in a week.

G'Day Glen

This forum is a real credit to you. For interest only. I have one too in the marine industry - see the link to the forum at www.handymariner.com.au/

Re wind generator, I found a source of motors afte rI posted the first message - lovely Italian guy who rents washing machines. Would you believe 5 motors for just $100 AND he wants to buy a wind generator after the prototype has been tested.

I'll try not to drive you guys mad with questions, but might need some input when it comes to selection and modification of the rectifier etc. I'll build the mechanical bits first.

Thanks for the prompt response

Alan
