Hi guys
I have just started making a VAWT (my first one).
Without the F&P motor in the windmill it spins freely. When I mount the motor I get a lot of cogging.

Now, I have modified one motor so it has the stator in 7 groups of two poles. When I have this motor mounted it has a lot of cogging.

When I mount an unmodified motor I have very little cogging.

Is this normal or have I stuffed up the modification of the motor?

Thanks

Hi tokala

Yeah something isn't right there. Like you say, if you fit a un-modified stator the cogging is gone, but the stator you modified is cogging. Sounds like there may be a mistake in the re-wiring. First up, visually go over you work to check for a mistake. If there is nothing obvious, try separating some of the connections you made one at a time and see if that fixes the problem.

Hope that helps. Its easy to make a mistake so don't get to stressed about it.
