There is one among us who does not have easy access to F&P or the Seeley units and I think it would be a great thing for some of us to get together and help him out, for such is the traditions of the ANZACS.

Of course I am thinking of our mate Vasi, will people join and help me on this please?

I have a few F&P taking up space in my garage but postage would be about $100, more or less.

It would not be too much effort for me to put one in a package and carry it to the post office, if I can do that do you think you guys could bear to put a note in an envelope and lick a stamp? Aus, NZ, US, UK notes, anything my bank would exchange for me.

So dont do anything yet, please just post your pledge on here so I can gauge response. If enough folks are keen I will post an address and make up the package.

I know we can do it....

Sounds like a good idea.

Couple of things, first up, we better make sure Vasi is ok with this, dont want to embarrass the poor fellow. Secondly, what should we send him? I mean, what model and extras would he need.

We also need to work out postage exactly, then I will pledge my bit for sure. Maybe this is something we could do every year, send a F&P to a oversea's forum member who cant source one locally themselves.

Yes, I am hoping Vasi will come up and let us know how he feels about this.

As to what to send, well I was thinking of an F&P rotor, stator, bearings in holder, shaft. A basic unit really.

I got a postage quote of about $100 NZ though we would not really know till we down the parcel down to the PO.

So Vasi, I respectfully ask can we have your reaction please? This is our tradition, we help each other, can we help you too?

I'm in if Vasi is ok with it.
If it's $100 that's only $10 for 10 of us, surely we can manage that.

Seems like a good idea.
I held back a little waiting for a response. I see our mate has been on but no comment.
With 9 starters so far that seems enough to send an email to see if we proceed?
Kiwijohn, I guess thats your honour?
I reckon a few more will come on board after we get the green light.
was working fine... til the smoke got out.

OK guys, this is looking good.

I will send an email to Vasi to get his acceptance and of course we need an address!

Providing it is OK with him I will pack up a unit and take it to the post office to get a price, then I will tell you how much we need. I am thinking that those who want to contribute can put a note in a birthday card or something and send it to the address I will give. It wont be exact, I might have to make up some or if it is too much I could give it to a charity we can all agree on. What do you all think?

Dwyer, as it might be easier to arrange in Australia I would be happy for you to do the posting, it might even be cheaper.

Tahnk you guys! I sent my reaction to Glenn, but also I want to put it here :

My God! I can't believe this is happening! My heart is going to go out of my
body! You guys are fantastic! I don't know if this project is possible, I
think sending a package from Australia is very expensive. Anyway, this is a
special day for me, i will save this html page and put it on a CD-ROM. God
bless you and your families. If i want a F & P ? I never hopped because of
distance! I was shocked by your action and that is enough for me! Thank you
guys! If this project is not possible, don't worry, i consider already have a
F&P from you (I already have one in Australia). Thank you again!
You know, my english is bad.

I was on line but only on one topic, then searched on Internet on other tabs
on Firefox browser ...
Maybe you have another Vasi on your forum ...., if is not about me ...

Sincerely,

Yeah Vasi its for you mate.

We realize now that you are not likely to ever see a F&P motor in Romania, so we thought it would be a good idea to send one to you. That way you could experiment and make your own F&P windmill.

I'll send you a private email shortly.
Big thanks to KiwiJohn.

I just got your email John, sent a reply.
Spam filters could be loosing those emails send from the site, though the one you sent to me got through ok. Unfortunately its the way the internet is now, email is no longer reliable.

Here it is! In the box! This is what I have on hand to send to our friend Vasi.

One gray rotor, a 1.0mm type stator, bearings, shaft, bearing holder, rotor holding nut.

By my best calculations and our old bathroom scales this will cost Aust $120 to send by cheapest parcel rate.

Thanks to all those who have offered to contribute and for that I propose the following mechanism:

1. Every contributor get a card or write a small note to Vasi.

2. Put folding dosh in the card.

3. Post to me at

John Hill
C/- CND
Box 30399
Lower Hutt
New Zealand

Please send whatever you are comfortable with but unless there are a few 20's I will find myself making up the shortfall.

I will acknowledge every contribution received on here, unless you indicate otherwise.

I will hold off on the posting for a couple of weeks which will give everyone a chance to get a card to me for including in Vasi's parcel.

If I receive more than I need I propose giving the excess to a charity that we can decide on should the need arise.

I trust these procedures are agreeable to everyone?

Thanks for you help on this

P.S. There is some risk in sending cash in the post but the individual exposure is not great and in my experience the risk is quite small provided the dosh is inside a card or between thick paper.

Thanks KiwiJohn for initiating this excellent idea

This idea of giving has been one of our long term habits. We are currently saving to be able to make a boat (catamaran) for a 7th world (UN Rated) boarding school in Kirabati. Both Marcy and I volunteered in yr 2000 teaching H/Economics and M/Arts. I also field co-ordinated $200,000 water and sanitation projects, including some highly engineered structures like the water tower, 7m high, form & poured concrete. One cement mixer and several buckets. No cranes and 5 tanks x 6000 litres each on top. Lots of fun….. I could tell stories for ages. We went back again (volunteer) in yr 2002 to teach the adults more with building (structural), mechanics, gardening and computing. This is the place where we learned to appreciate wind & solar. There is no electricity, no phones, & no doctors.

Posting Card Tomorrow.
