Hi guys had a very interesting afternoon with Dennis Latham on sunday, saw a lot of blades and other interesting stuff, bought a 1500 seeley to play with and can see potential with it. Been on sight and seen other posts regarding the seeley and was just wondering why not spin the centre using slip rings on the shaft? and fix the green outside covering.

Hi Bob,,, welcome to the 'seeley' group...
I looked at your suggestion,, not impossible, we would need slip rings . There are a couple of other 'points" I'm concerned with --1 never had much joy with slip-rings experienced a lot of losses .
But, later down the track ,I'll bet someone will give it a try .
Phil M and I are thinking a dog clutch sort of arrangement -completely taking the weight and stress of the blade set off the motor .
Early days yet..

Hi fellas, I think slip rings on a vawt would be ok but if your going to put them on the prop shaft of a hawt they will be subjected to 300,400,500 rpm.
I've never tried that but I assume they will wear out pretty quick.
Slip rings on the yaw bearing seem to last years but there is much less wear and tear on them.
The ones I use are out of a V8 starter motor.Central Victorian highlands
