Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Friends, I'm interested in being taught how to draw on my photographs. I see the smart guys can draw with a pencil type line to illistrate a particular part or whatever the post is trying to describe.

Could someone write up a "Dummies" intoduction to how I do this-you'll have to be very descriptive,as I'm as dumb as when it comes to these computa thingo's.

Thanks

Bruce

Hello Bruce, I working with GIMP (a program like Photoshop) on Linux operating system. The concept is similar to Photoshop under Windows

So, you need to load a photograph on program with File/Open

Then, you must select a brush or a pencil from "Toolbox" zone

And "paint" your photo.

Of course, there are many programs with different interfaces but ALL have a toolbox zone and a color selector. Also, you can find a GIMP version for Windows, is a free software.

P.S.: Don't forget to save your work under a different name.

Also GIMP can be used for acquiring screenshots (the last picture is an example)

I think this will work! For example, you want to put a label on a picture and post it on The Backshed.

1. Right click on the photo you want to label and click on 'Copy'

2.Open 'Paintbrush' programme that comes with Windows

3. Move your mouse cursoe over the Paintbrush and type Control-V, this will put your picture into Paintbrush.

4. Choose 'A' tool and click on the picture where you want to put the label.

5. Type in your label and resize/reshape the text window as desired.

6. Go to File/ Save As at the top left of the paint window.

7. Go to the bottom of the Save As window and change the file type to include JPEG.

8. Type in the file name and click 'save'.

9. Use 'Image Upload' on the PostReply window to add the picture to your post.

Like this--

You may notice that I also used the line drawing tools to add a crude arrow to my label.Edited by KiwiJohn 2007-07-03

Hey Bruce, first of all do you have any graphics programs like indesign or photoshop?
if not the paint will do enough for what you want.
click on start, programs, accessories and it should be in that box down the bottom.
on the left it has the tools.
use the pencil or line tool to draw
there is an "A" there as well use this to add text.
This is something I just did in paint.

It's very limited, but for what you want to do it's fine.

Also if you want to keep lines strait hold the shift key when you draw them.
Control and z will undo your last move.Edited by Highlander 2007-07-03
