what do you all think of this one....

The Envirowind 500W Wind Generator is an excellent choice for environmentally friendly energy production. Help the environment and feel good while saving yourself money at the same time. The wind generator is built with most durable and sturdy materials like reinforced fibreglass, cast steel and aluminium. Its superior design allows it to withstand winds of up to 40m/sec and provide excellent power efficiency.

Included in this amazing offer is shunt/regulator controller at no extra cost.

The Envirowind 500W is straightforward to assemble but does require some trade skills e.g. concreting. Due to the large surface area of the blades, very little wind is required to generate power.

Please note: The product shipped may look slightly different to the product in the auction.

Technical Specs :

Rated Power : 500W
Ouput DC Voltage(Voc): 24V
Start Wind Speed: 3m/s
Rated Wind Speed: 8m/s
MaximumWind Speed: 40m/s
Overspees Protection: Auto Furl

Rotor Diameter: 2.70m
Rotor Speed: 400rpm
Blades: 3
Blade Material: Reinforced Fibreglass

Weight: 125kg
.... sounds good to me

These all come out of the same factory in china as far as I can tell, and marketed under various brands around the place.

I purchased a 1000W unit (48V) about 18 months ago, and apart from a few downsides, I've been pretty happy with it.

1. My blades were very noisy, but the angle grinder, some
sandpaper and paint fixed that.

2. Its balance isn't great, but was "mostly" fixable.

3. The controller that came with it was total crap.

4. The instructions were wrong, meaning I dug the anchors
in the wrong place and the guys were too short

5. They only supplied a single cable clamp per guy per
end, which was a bit feeble.

Apart from these issues, it actually let me get into wind. Sure, I could have made one cheaper. But the plain fact is, I WOULDN'T HAVE. It was all too hard, or took too much time I didn't have, or skills I don't have, or resources I haven't got. (Carving blades alone would stop me in my tracks).

While these kits are more than a home-brew, they are a near-complete kit (have to do the concreting yourself), they are a damn good way to get in and get your feet wet with something that can actually make useful power. I've often seen mine sitting at 800 watts, and on occasion 1200 watts and over. To me, and I guess to many others, the cost of the kit is worth it just to get all the bits and know that if I put it together, it'll work.

The chinese one I got has conventional furling. I've only seen it do it a couple of times - seems to be at somewhere around 55kmh

This was it the day I put it up....

Hi ross, what you said is the exact reason I got it..and the price...at the moment I have not got the time to do all the things I have rattleing around in my head, working extra hours to pay for all the things I need to buy dose not give me the time to build the things I want to build...

got this last week too, edy6500 diesel, yamaha brand with kubota engine electric start...

$700.00

yes vasi, looked at the air X ones, I think that this one has more "bang for bucks" (bigger and cheaper)

Well I am slowly getting a stock up at this house, bty they will start building my house in a week, means it will be ready in about 4 months, so I will be in by christmas( I hope), so I will have to get all I need by then..

btw BIG thanks all for the inverter info, nearly made an expensive error.

There is nothing wrong with edy6500 diesel, yamaha brand with kubota engine electric start which is well known company around the world and kubota engine is good one and should last long time and change the oil more often however take my advice dont use any car motor oil buy proper diesel oil which has high detergent that design for diesel engine however funny things can use diesel oil on car but cant use car oil on diesel motor
