Finaly after 8 months it actually works, results have been reasonable . With the prop hub being able to wind back one turn and bump start the rotors it starts in about 10klm . Starts charging at approx 65 Rpm in about 10 to 14 klm

Thanks Trev for puting me in the right direction with the tail angle it wasn't working so it has about 25 deg to the side and I put adjustable stops to get the blades square to the wind on start up..

Plasmatronics pl 20 controlls the dump load and logs how many amp hrs goes in over a 24hr period . It loged 21 amp hours a few days ago we had good constant wind and storms . Saw the amps hit 8.9 @ 62 Vlts in 40 klm and the wind went to 60 but the star delta relay wire was disconnected and it defaults to star so the amps sat solid on 5.6...

Cabnet and battery bank

So far its been a huge learning curve and finally have something to tinker with and improve on . I have slowly cutting the blade dia down , started at 3.15m and now at 2.85 , trying to find the best length for start up and best rpms & torque... It takes about 15 min to change blade angle , at 2 deg at present. Was -2 by mistake for the high wind 2 days back. Anyway I'll leave it at that and keep on tinkering and watching dials & meters.....Regards to All ..Phill

Thanks Glen I seem to have a bit of trouble with picks , cant work out how to make them smaller on the page with the text next to them..?

Yea Gill it was only 10 to 20 k so was only getting .5 to 2.6 at 54V = 25 to 160 watts . The volt meter in the cabnet door is reading in Watts and the amp meter is done like Glen explains in info except if I tap 9v of the batt bank it doesn't work must have a common earth ... Phill

Its a very neat installation Phill, well done.

I like the nose cone, been thinking about using one on mine, need to find a stainless steel salad bowl or something of the right diameter.

Thanks Windman
Good wind here today 25+ the batts are back at 62v and Im having a bit of trouble burning contacts out when the dump load switches on... O for a latronics grid inverter to take the power into the grid . Amps have been hiting 7 to 8 .. 350 to 400 watts Im ..Phill..

G'day Phill, nice rig.
I'm looking at upgrading to a plasmatronics from the k220.
I'm not familiar with them, I assume that relay on the rail is for the dump load.
It appears your measuring via the shunt and not series.
What's the red thing at the top?

Nice sandstone by the way, we don't see much of that down here.

Hi Vic ,
Thanks for your comments , the plasmatronics pl20 is very good it controlls the dump load via the relay on the rail which then switches 2 24v larger relays in series , I have had a fair bit of trouble with burning out contacts in relays when the dump load switches of , I have overcome this at present buy removing the back contacts to give more air gap . The other good thing with the pl20 is it loggs data , total amp hours for the day and stores last 30 days data , if you go to www.plasmatronics you can down load the manual etc . The red thing is a length of 1/4 unc rod bent in a u , covered in heat shrink is being used as a shunt for the amps & watts meters . The wind gen is gradually getting more power output as I am modifying the blades and their angles , I had a peak of 9 amps at 63v into the batts the other day . At present I have just completed 2 Neo rotors which will go on in a couple of days when I get home ,on tests I have done up here on an unmodified stator they should give a 40~50% power increase , hopefully this will load the blades more as they don't seem to have any effort spinning the standard dual. I've decided to go down the path of increasing the field strength as you do in normal alts to get more power and up the power going in and with better blade profiles etc to get the power to the input , simple logic: you can't drive a mac truck with a mower engine.!! Anyway thought I'd repily and have have a bit of a rave on what I've been doing.. The bricks are sandstone look a likes made by Gympie Bricks outside Brisbane , heaps cheaper than the real deal

You might be able to reduce sparking at the relay contacts by connecting capacitors across the gap.
