Hiya Guy's, Well after a hard weekends work I finally got the new genny up and flying. It was blowing a gale for the last 2 days and wouldn't ya know it, no sooner the genny went up the wind stopped. But it didnt take long for the genny to get going . As my batteries were sitting on 27 volts already the genny was going like the clappers just to reach charging voltage. So my next project is making a 1:2 stepup drive and I reckon the plywood blades will have the grunt to get it going.
The tower is made from the inner section of my comms tower and the outer section will become a second tower after I make a new inner section and be around 16 metres high. The one above is about 8.5 metres high. Cheers Bryan |

Looks good Bryan. Whats the diameter of the turbine? Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

Hiya Glenn, The diameter of the was 3 metres but now the blades are firewood. I got home from work to find them on my shed roof in pieces. The ali shaft holding the blades had sheared and the rest of genny and tower didnt suffer any damage. anyway I got a price on the plummer blocks and flange mount bearings today $48 + gst for 2 of each aint a bad price and I can get some double V-pulleys to try the 1:2 ratio. If 1:2 doesnt work I can just swap the big pulley for a smaller size until it's right. Anyway this friday arvo I'm heading to the wood yard and getting some planks and I'll carve a new set of blades to Altons calculator. So it looks like a heap more work to go before my shed batteries get a genny to charge them up. Although the batteries the genny were on were showing 27.7 volts which is near float voltage so atleast the genny did it's job before bloody murphy arrived yet again. Cheers Bryan |

Hiya guys, Well after abit of work I got thw wind genny backup again. This time I've gone with 3 blades @2.6 metres diameter. Bloody murhpy was around again there was no wind at all so I set the blades up outside to paint and balance them then the wind started blowing and the blades kept wanting to take off. Unlike the 4 blade setup I needed to balance this one which was abit of fun. Anyway below is a pic of it and hopefully it will last abit longer than the previous one.
In a light wind I was getting around 12-14 volts AC so I reckon once we get some decent wind the genny will be charging the batteries way quicker than the 3 metre 4 blade setup but time will tell. Cheers Bryan |

Those high voltage lines are the main interstate ones, I've got 2 seperate lines near me, 1 going over the farm the other over the neighbours property but no grid connection. The picture is a bit misleading as those lines are over 300 metres away. My goal is after I get a few wind gennies up is when the etsa blokes come onto the farm to check the towers and see them when they ask what I do with the power off them I'll just smile and tell them the spare 5Kw just goes to heating water.
