ive been looking aorund now for a while for a small windmill to power some lights Almost every weekend me and a gorup of friends go camping here in hawaii and with the strong trade winds (20-30mph), we were looking at maybe building a windmill to power our lights (save us gas on a generator), were not trying to build anything huge just enough to power a few light bulbs so we can see what were doing when we are fishing and stuff, any suggestions on what type, how large, and best materials to use ? i will post here when i start work and let you know how things turn out ( i use a small windmill 5 inch blades to pump air into my bait container) |

Hi Exzodier Now thats a good idea ![]() For your windmill a treadmill motor or large servo motor would be the way to go. You could make a set of PVC blades about 3 or 4 foot in diameter, and that should give you enough power to trickle charge a battery with a couple of amps. That would be enough to power a couple of LED lights and radio. I would build the windmill so it can pack up neatly for moving from site to site. The mast will be the biggest problem, do you have a caravan or 4WD you can attach a short mast to? Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

a mast shoudent be a problem the area we go to is right on the beach and i was going to try just useing a singel verticel pole and place it in the rocks just like i do my fishing pole. the main part i have trouble understanding is any circuits i would have to make or build. |
