Hi Guys

Well I'm in Toowoomba ( Qld Australia ) on a little holiday. I couldn't say anything before now because it was a surprise visit for my Dad who turned 70 a few days ago, and I know he reads these forums occasionally.

I'm here until Wednesday. I've actually been thinking about moving to Toowoomba for a couple of months, the climate is better and I have family here, amongst other reasons. So while I'm here for the next few days I'll talk to the local realestate agents about land prices, and visit some of the local laser cutting businesses to see what the work opportunities are like.

I'll be taking a few windmill photos while I'm here, there are a lot of the old farm water pumping mills around, including one with a turbine 25 feet in diameter. When I get back I'll post the photos for everyone to see.

Have a good one.

Glenn.

Hi Glenn,, Have a nice break,be good to see Dad and the family for a beer or two.
My gut feeling is real estate is going to drop in value over the next few months ,we are seeing longer than expected selling periods around here and on the Gold Coast.
Cunninghams gap area is an area I've been interested in since my Rover Scout climbing days ,,lots of spectacular mountains and massive views.

If you are wanting to "get-out" for a day ,come down here.

Live near Murphy's ck (down the hill), but I find Toowoomba to be to cold for me in Winter. 30-40C and I'm happy
Southern Cross/tyco in Withcott (also down the hill) still make the old pumping mills, still to the same specs as 30-40 years ago.

Still dreaming about self power (on 50ac, but HV runs 100m from the house)

I'm Back!

Windmills on display in Toowoomba, the big one is 8 meters in diameter.

The windmills below were are a historic park ( lots of old machines, loved it! ).

This one has an interesting self furling mechanism. Took me a while to work out how it worked, hint, the turbine is down wind and the big fin is normally flat ( level with the ground ). The smaller fin, or paddle, is counterweighted, and when it pivots foward ( strong wind ), the larger fin is tilted, catching the wind and turning the windmill around. Very simple and easy to adjust with the counterweight.

On my way back to Brisane to catch the flight home I called in to see Ian Dwyer. Like your lathe Ian, and some interresting projects on the go.
