Hi John,

What equipment do you have?
Do you have a budget?
What size battery and type?
Do you want to make, or buy?

Answers to these questions and more will help.

cheers, Gordon.

Hi Gorden I made a f-p generator dual installed in to four batterys two 6v 900 ah and two 200 ah 12v battery I added two solar panells to the set up delivering about 9amps to setup all through a 40amp reg I then built a single f/p mill at a lower level about 5m high which workes verry well putting out 10amps I was not happy with dual mill so I installed a 24v 1000w[ baught one] through a reg split my batterys to two systems,my inverter is a 12v 8000w,I have the 24v mill to the two 200amp wet batterys which are fully charged all the time I have taken a tapping of one but not happy I hope you under stand my set up.

There are devices (inverters ?) made for running 12 volt accessories in trucks and boats etc which have 24 volt systems. Sorry but I have no idea if they are available in the size you would need nor am I confident that their output would he high enough to charge your batteries.

LATER: I found this one which does claim to have a 12v battery charging capability. Click hereEdited by KiwiJohn 2008-03-26

The black box in the middle rack is a 24-12v dc-dc truck converter-- good for 20 amps and I just tweaked the internal pot to allow 14.5v for charging a 12v bank ..

Have installed a pc fan in the back to cool the heatsink, This whole rack is for 12v from my 24v main solar system, the 24v from the bank runs those ups 240v cream boxes -been running for years now.

Hi John,

these 24V-12V converters are available from Jaycar, etc..

Jaycar #MP-3068 20A continuous/fan cooled 90% efficient.

check specs to see if will do the job.

cheers, Gordon.

Gordan, and John,
This DC DC converter MP-3068 is suitable for charging. Output voltage is from 12-13.8v. My price $99 and freight would be minimal, it is only 600g.

I have not said before, but I am able to supply all Jaycar products.

John,
I would recommend the power from the DC DC converter go through a regulator (solar regulator) so that the 12v system can not be overcharged.

To stop the charge if the 24v system got too low, at this stage I can't think of any answer.

The input voltage is 20-30v. I don't know, maybe it cuts out below 20v???

A larger 24v system than the 12v system may be enough, so the 12v system will be full before the 24v system becomes under charged too much.

Perhaps an answer from the resident electronics gurus.

I have a 24 volt battery system and a 12 volt inverter.I bought a redark charge equaliser and pull power from one 12 v battery. The equaliser keeps the 2 batterys at the same voltage.

John,
This is all the info I have. Don't know if it would do what you are aksing.

STOCK-CODE: KC5377 RRP: $29.95

Universal Voltage Switch

Ref: Performance Electronics for Cars - Silicon Chip Publications.
This is a universal module which can be adapted to suit a range of different applications. It will trip a relay when a preset voltage is reached. It can be configured to trip with a rising or falling voltage, so it is suitable for a wide variety of voltage outputting devices eg., throttle position sensor, air flow sensor, EGO sensor. It also features adjustable hysteresis (the difference between trigger on/off voltage), making it extremely versatile. You could use it to trigger an extra fuel pump under high boost, anti-lag wastegate shutoff, and much more. Kit supplied with PCB, and all electronic components.
