Starting small and am going to build the Mini Mill with my son to charge his game controller batteries. 2 questions. Is there a recommended full wave bridge rectifier for the project? Is the step motor from the old kind of FDD that used 5" floppies or the newer hard shelled floppies? Thanks Dan |

As we are only talking about low power here, just about any diodes would work. If you have a Dick Smith store near by, just look for the cheapest bridge rectifier you can find, ie a 2W06 http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/47eeeac1010bd2a 02742c0a87f9c0741/Product/View/Z3308 would be fine. The motor shown on the web site was from a 5" floppy drive, but these are getting hard to come by, and almost collectable. The best source of litle stepper motors today would be inkjet printers. People throw these out as soon as they realise the ink cost more than the printer, but as a source of parts they are great. These motors were from ink jets.... ![]() You just need to think of a way to attach the turbine. If you get hold of a printer, you could probably find all the other parts you need to the Mini Mill, including the bridge rectifiers.
