I was surprised to see Andy being so rough. Even our own Mab1 knew you need to use a holesaw to release the inductors and cut across to avoid the capacitors. There was a link in the comments to another attemt here ... where the guy used a holesaw. A much more civilised effort. ![]() Cheers, Roger |

Definitely built to be a throwaway device. Potting the capacitors is a rotten trick. I would think that a controller that costs as much as they do would be at least repairable. Will never buy another one. I have one in service out of 3 now. Pete |

Yes, it did seem more like a rant about victron than a serious attempt to repair to me. Maybe he's better at making u-tube vids than watching them. I did watch his vid about using a heat gun, and saw some opinions that the heat gun method didn't work with the bigger units, and saw the one with few words using the holesaw which seemed the course to follow. I'm still smarting a bit that it went belly up just when i thought I'd succeeded ![]() Edited 2024-05-19 05:29 by mab1 |

I think you're right about him wanting a rant ... another of his earlier videos came up here and he was clearly unimpressed with Victron, even before he started. Rightly or wrongly I have no idea ... though reading a lot of the comments from many of the fan boys in some Victron groups, it may be more an annoyance at their elitist attitudes (the fan boys, not Victron itself) ... because most of them rub me up the wrong way too. ![]() I'm sure their gear is generally pretty good and better than a lot ... but it's not the only option that's for certain. Yeah, that's gotta hurt ... especially after all the effort you've put in. Still it may be worth having another look once you've had a bit of a break from it and the pressure is off with your neighbour having bought a replacement. Surprising how often a fresh look opens up new avenues to explore. Cheers, Roger |
