Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

You are very welcome. I'm very interested in how you get on with it and any suggestions you have for improvements.

First part is about to finish now

now i have to find out how to align the back of the housing to minimize the need for supports

Excellent. Thanks for the update.

For what it's worth, I aligned the back of the housing this way for printing.

There are groves on the left/right edges of the bezel that you are printing. If you have supports on while printing, you may have to scrape them out of the groves. The large part of the monitor case has corresponding rails on the left/right edges that the groves should slot into. Mine were too tight, so I expanded the gap a little bit on the new model (the one you are printing). Hopefully I haven't made it too loose fitting.

My LCD panel has two screw holes at the top, so I made corresponding holes in the monitor case. I hung the panel with just a couple of bolts. They don't actually need to have nuts on the back, as the bezel should hold the panel firmly in place.

I would recommend adding the 90 degree HDMI connector to the LCD before putting the panel in the case, as it's a bit tight.

I'm very interested in your experience with this and what you would change/fix.

I can definitely do that, but not until the end of the week probably. (I'll be away from my computer for the next few days). The case might have to be expanded a little bit but not by much. What computer are you putting in there, and I'll make sure it fits with the floppy bay.

EDIT: I just read the next story on the forum - which was you talking about floppy drive with CMM2 - so I guess it's a CMM2  . No problem.

Hi Plasma
the thing is that a standard 3.5 inch drive would already take up half the space:

So you would either have to make the housing higher so that the floppy can be mounted above the board,
or you place a floppy case  between the computer and the screen

Cheers

I was intending on making it taller (that way the top of the case and monitor would not need to be remodeled). However, to take a mash-up of your ideas - I quite like the idea of a separate floppy "layer" between the case and monitor. Sort of like the later HP9000 Unix stations did - where you just stacked boxes until you had a giant tower of power.

Hey Pete,
taller is not the problem (except for longer printing times). The housing is already larger in length and width than a “normal” 3D printer (22x22cm) could produce.
I'm currently having problems with the back of the monitor because of the curvature. Printing time 7.5 hours each time. After 3 failed attempts (at the moment i am also struggling with printer problems from time to time, I'm considering whether I should split it into back and side parts or simply make it more square.

cheers

I vote for more square. Even with support struts, I wasn't particularly happy with the banding on the curve. It looked quite rough. Are you comfortable making the edit yourself - if not, I can do it this weekend?
