Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi DaViD,

A table of data would probably have been easier to follow. You have put a copyright logo on this data, but This is not really any different to data that you calculate from the relevant formulae.

If you are going to copy data, please ensure there are no mistakes. The last data set does not have 3330.8W for the energy. Probably 333.8 might be right.

I will problably crunch the data and compare with my own real world testing, but not today.

Gordon.

hi all

the chainsaw blades ala winglets and turbulator strips (tape and trace wire along the back of the blades).... ... finally replaced the old cheap but cheerful (same size but flat blades )......

the alt had to be rebuilt with longer studs for the new prop (the real reason for the delay )

it being paddys day and all , due diligance was applied to proper scentific measurement ..... ..sort of ...none then

the twisted blades run really nice ..especially at start up and the lower power levels

surprisingly at the top end the flat blades hold their own really well compared to the new ones
a bit more running (max ampage readings) still needs to be done

the winglets whistle a bit when the speed gets up but i,ll leave them on (cant help thinking they,ve added a little ..they dont seem to be slowing it down any)

but then i,m totally biased

Nice looking blades and turbine niall.

I been busy lately and I haven't been able to keep up with this thread as I would have liked to. So, I might be opening a new can of worms here.

As stated earlier in this post, the large turbine blades are able to approach the Betz limit, while most small turbines struggle to get close. I realize the variable pitch has much to do with this but I don't think that's the whole story. What type of wings do they use? Any insight?

hi philb

im afraid i dont have much info on the big ones ..on the local wind farm your can get in and stand under a running prop ... amazing how much the props can bend ...i read somewhere that some of them rely mainly on the aerofoil shape for power ...much less on the pitch
who knows

found these on fieldlines
