PicoMite Font1 for the terminal
===============================

The PicoMite's built-in font 1 (8x12, characters 32-255) as a font for
Linux, macOS and Windows. The serial console in PuTTY (or macOS Terminal) then
shows exactly what the LCD shows: box drawing, blocks, Greek, maths, and the
PicoMite's own symbols at 128-175.

Files
-----
PicoMiteFont1.ttf the font - use this on all three systems
PicoMiteFont1-charset.png every character, drawn with the .ttf
font1_to_ttf.py rebuilds the .ttf from font1.h in the firmware source

How it works
------------
Byte N is mapped to the Unicode character that code page 437 (the old IBM PC
character set) gives N, but drawn with the PicoMite's glyph for N. So set your
terminal's character set to CP437 and each byte the PicoMite sends shows as
it does on its own screen.

Every pixel is a square in the outline, so it is sharp at 12 pixels high and
at exact multiples (24, 36...). Other sizes will look uneven.

Windows (PuTTY)
---------------
1. Right-click PicoMiteFont1.ttf -> Install.
2. PuTTY -> Window -> Appearance -> Font settings -> Change...
   Font: PicoMite Font1, size 9 (= 12 pixels at 100% display scaling;
   at 200% scaling, 9 still works; at 125% or 150%, it will not be exact).
3. Same page, Font quality: Non-Antialiased.
4. Window -> Translation -> Remote character set: CP437.
5. Save the session.

macOS (Terminal)
----------------
1. Double-click PicoMiteFont1.ttf -> Install Font.
2. Terminal -> Settings -> Profiles -> Text -> Font: Change...
   PicoMite Font1, size 12. Untick "Antialias text".
3. Profiles -> Advanced -> Text encoding: Latin-US (DOS).
4. Connect with:  screen /dev/tty.usbmodem* 115200

Linux (PuTTY)
-------------
1. mkdir -p ~/.local/share/fonts
   cp PicoMiteFont1.ttf ~/.local/share/fonts/
   fc-cache -f
2. PuTTY -> Window -> Appearance -> Font: PicoMite Font1, size 9.
3. Window -> Translation -> Remote character set: CP437.
4. Same page: UNTICK "Override with UTF-8 if locale says so".
   It is ticked by default, and while it is, PuTTY ignores CP437 and every
   character above 127 shows as a grey checkerboard, whatever the font.
